Recruiting: NU gets 4th of July commit from Freedom Akinmoladun

Nebraska’s 2014 recruiting class added its tenth commit Thursday when Grandview (Mo.) tight end Freedom Akinmoladun — who visited for Big Red Weekend — pledged to the Huskers by calling NU tight ends coach Barney Cotton.

The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder picked Nebraska over offers from Illinois, Iowa, Kansas and Kansas State. He caught 21 passes for 331 yards and a touchdown last year for Grandview. His cousin, Oladapo Akinmoladun, is a sprinter on the NU track team.

“Hopefully I become a great target in the offense,” Akinmoladun told Huskers Illustrated. “I want to be a great target for the quarterback. I expect to grow up, become a man and help out wherever I need to be at.”

Akinmoladun is only rated by one — 247Sports gave him three stars  – of the four major recruiting services. But he was bound to emerge more as a prospect in his senior year. He projects either to tight end or defensive end.
