Nebraska coaches were hinting at picking up two commits on the Fourth of July. The first was Grandview (Mo.) tight end Freedom Akinmoladun.
The second is a higher-profile prospect, and NU’s top wide receiver target: Four-star recruit Monte Harrison. Husker Online was the first to report the commit.
Harrison, a 6-foot-2, 195-pounder out of Lee’s Summit (Mo.) West High School — a suburb of Kansas City — picked NU over a host of schools, including Arkansas, Missouri and Kentucky. A three-sport star whose athleticism and skillset rivals that of 2011 Husker recruit Bubba Starling, Harrison, like Starling, will likely be drafted out of high school by a Major League Baseball team. If Harrison picks college, he’s said before he intend to play baseball for Husker coach Darin Erstad.
