If Afalava didn’t already figure prominently into NU’s plans, he sure does after the June 27 announcement that Thomas Brown was no longer with the team.

Afalava and Max Pirman are two returning Huskers who have worked at the strongside linebacker position, where many expected Brown to emerge as the starter. Afalava put on 15 pounds during a redshirt season and will head into fall camp listed at 230.

Gifted athletically and considered versatile enough to play either the middle or weakside linebacker spots, as well, Afalava came from South Jordan, Utah, where he played on a pair of state championship teams at Bingham High and had scholarship offers from a host of Pac-12 schools.
