Nebraska recruited a big Texas high school back in its 2013 class with Adam Taylor. The 2014 class will have a Lone Star running back at the other end of the spectrum.
Larenzo Stewart, a 5-foot-6, 165-pounder out of Klein (Texas) Oak High School, committed to NU Saturday, according to several recruiting sites. Several friends and family members congratulated Stewart on Twitter, although Stewart’s Twitter account is private.
He’s a three-star prospect according to 247Sports and ESPN, a two-star prospect according to Rivals, and Scout has him unrated. He’s rushed for 2,345 yards and 21 touchdowns during his Klein Oak career, and finished fifth in the 100-meter dash at the Texas 5A State Championships. Stewart’s fastest 100-meter time this spring was 10.45 seconds.*
He had offers from Baylor, Louisiana Tech and Houston, all high-powered, no-huddle attacks.
*Stewart’s time would not have been a state record, as previously written. Papillion-LaVista’s Kenzo Cotton ran a 1o.41-second 100 meters in the state track meet finals.
