The expectations are high for this potentially menacing edge rusher, even though he hasn’t played in a year.

Gregory’s not yet on campus, either, delayed as he works to meet academic requirements. He’s expected to arrive later this month.

When he gets to Lincoln, however, his impact should be felt immediately. Juco guys like Gregory don’t transfer to redshirt.

The injured leg has healed now and Gregory’s gone out of his way to add weight to his frame and learn the scheme’s principles as best he can from afar. If he’s ready, Nebraska’s shown the ability to feature difference-makers at defensive end (Eric Martin last year). The numbers Gregory put up as a freshman at Arizona Western Community College — 82 total tackles, 21 stops behind the line of scrimmage and nine sacks — indicate he has potential for such a role.
