Nebraska cornerback Ciante Evans was among 48 defensive backs named Friday to the 2013 watch list for the Jim Thorpe Award.
The 5-foot-11, 190-pound senior started 12 of 14 games last season, racking up 56 tackles (38 solo), eight pass breakups and one interception, and was an All-Big Ten honorable-mention selection by the league’s coaches.
The Thorpe Award, established in 1986, is bestowed upon the nation’s top defensive back. Three finalists will be named in late November and the winner will be announced Dec. 12.
Other Big Ten selections include Purdue cornerback Ricardo Allen, Ohio State safeties C.J. Barnett and Christian Bryant, Ohio State cornerback Bradley Roby, Northwestern safety Ibraheim Campbell, and cornerback Darqueze Dennard and safety Isaiah Lewis from Michigan State.
