Husker Camp Countdown: No. 20 Imani Cross
Sam McKewon Omaha World-Herald

From now until the start of fall camp, The World-Herald will be counting down the top 50 players you need to know heading into the 2013 football season.

Imani Cross | 6-foot-1 | 225 pounds | So. | Running back

One of the best-conditioned Huskers, the Atlanta-area native is poised for a breakout year — if he can hold off freshman Adam Taylor for NU’s “big back” carries. Cross served well in that role last season, rushing for 324 yards and seven touchdowns. Because of Rex Burkhead’s recurring knee injury, Cross often got the short-yardage carries, which suited his frame and strength.

In the spring, Cross was more of a feature back while Ameer Abdullah healed from a knee strain.

While Cross will never be a particularly elusive back, he can find a hole and he’s a bear to bring down after a few yards. Cross is a diligent practice player, often one of the last Huskers to leave the field after a workout. He’s quickly become a popular interview, too.
