LINCOLN — Nebraska wide receiver Kenny Bell was named to the Biletnikoff Award preseason watch list Tuesday.
The Biletnikoff Award is presented annually to the nation’s outstanding college football receiver by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation, Inc.
During the 2012-13 season, the 6-foot-1, 185-pound Bell had 50 catches, 863 yards and eight touchdowns while tallying three games with at least 100 receiving yards. His 50 receptions ranked seventh on NU’s single-season chart, while his yardage and touchdown numbers both were No. 8 on the school’s all-time list for a single season. Bell earned second-team All-Big Ten honors from the coaches and media last season.
No Husker receiver has ever won the Biletnikoff Award, which has been presented since 1994.
Other Big Ten players on the list include Wisconsin senior Jared Abbrederis, Michigan State sophomore Aaron Burbridge, Michigan senior Jeremy Gallon, Indiana junior Cody Latimer, Penn State junior Allen Robinson and Ohio State’s Corey Brown (senior) and Devin Smith (junior).
The 2013 Biletnikoff Award will be presented on Dec. 12 during the Home Depot College Football Awards Show. The award banquet will be held Feb. 8, 2014.
Bell, a junior, had this to say about the honor on Twitter:
Whoa. So I guess I made the watch list for the biletnikoff? Not bad for scrawny kid from boulder. Nnniiiiiiiice.
