Husker Camp Countdown: No. 17 Jake Cotton
Sam McKewon Omaha World-Herald

From now until the start of fall camp, The World-Herald will be counting down the top 50 players you need to know heading into the 2013 football season.

We’re penciling in the middle of tight ends coach Barney Cotton’s three sons as the starter at left guard.

Slowed by injuries — including a devastating ACL tear in 2011 — for most of his Husker career, Cotton should be healthier this year than he’s been since early in 2011.

Cotton has attitude and physicality to burn, which is reminiscent of the confident, burly lines of Nebraska’s salad days in the 1990s. Though coaches occasionally have to tell Cotton to take his intensity down a notch in practice, they’ll like having that competitive edge in games.

Should Cotton stay healthy, he’s one of NU’s best linemen on what could be the best line in the Bo Pelini era.
