Leading up to the Nebraska high school football season, NEPrepZone.com will be looking at the top teams in each class, based on last season’s final rankings. First up, Eight Man-2 will be in the spotlight with a new post each day. Let us know in the comments how you think each team will finish, as well as the players you’ll be watching.

No. 5 LINDSAY HOLY FAMILY
Coaches: Bill Mimick and Scott Morrison, third season
Returning starters: OL/DL Ben Frisch (Sr.), OL/LB Scott Jarecki (Sr.), RB/DB Brayden Frauendorfer (Jr.), OL/DL Ryan Pfeifer (Jr.), TE/DE Nick Jarecki (Jr.), OL/DB Jacob Sueper (Jr.), RB/LB Carter Beller (So.), RB/DB Austin Preister
Player to watch: Frauendorfer was an All-District and All-State honorable mention as a defensive back last season. He lettered as a freshman and a sophomore.

No. 6 MEDICINE VALLEY
Coach: Scott Johnsen, seventh season
Returning starters: RB/LB Quinten Chancellor (Sr.), OL Cory Merrigan (Sr.), DE Sage Schmidt (Sr.), LB Ty Contrerez (Sr.), RB/DB Cody Aspenleiter (Jr.).
Player to watch: Aspenleiter lettered as a freshman and sophomore.
Coach’s quote: “Hopefully the success from last year’s season can help us with confidence at the start of the season and we can try to build on that.”

No. 7 BERTRAND
Coach: Brent Streeter, 16th season
Returning starters: Robert Edgren (Sr.), Dustin Langenberg (Sr.), Edgar Estrada (Sr.).
Player to watch: Edgren and Langenberg are each three-year letter winners.
Coach’s quote: “Our team will be very young with few upperclassman returning due to class size.”

No. 8 KENESAW
Coach: Craig Schnitzler, 13th season
Returning starters: C/LB Michael Duffy (Sr.), OL/DE Evan Uden (Sr.), TE/DB Colton Blankenship (Sr.), OL/DL Zach Edwards (Jr.), RB/DB Preston Schnitzler (So.).
Player to watch: Duffy had 97 tackles and 4 1/2 sacks a season ago. Schnitzler nearly rushed for 1,000 yards as a freshman. Both were named All-District last season.
Coach’s quote: “It all starts with the men up front and we have some good ones.”

No. 9 STERLING
Coach: Arlo Wusk, 30th season
Returning starters: RB Chris Wenzl (Sr.), TE Kody Benson (Sr.), RB Trey Trauernicht (Sr.), OL Kale Heusman (Sr.), QB Nathan Thies (Jr.), K Bailey Bessey (Sr.).
Player to watch: Wenzl rushed for 1,639 last season to earn All-State honors.
Coach’s quote: “The line will be the question mark as we approach this season, but we will count on our seniors to get the job accomplished.”
