EIGHT MAN-1 NO. 3 BRUNING-DAVENPORT-SHICKLEY
Coach: Mark Rotter, 13th season
Last season: Lost in state semifinals to Exeter-Milligan
Offense: RB Wyatt Schoenholz (Sr.), RB/QB Grant Norder (Jr.), TE Chris Rohr (Jr.)
Defense: DB Schoenholz, DT Regan Ahrens (Sr.), DB Nathan Hendrickson (Jr.)
Ryan Tegtmeier, QB: A four-year starter under center and leader of the team, Tegtmeier graduated last year, leaving some big shoes to fill.
KEY RETURNING PLAYER
Schoenholz: After spending most of his time at split-end last season, Schoenholz has moved to running back full time. His quickness in the backfield and awareness in the secondary will be a necessity for BDS.
KEY POSITION CHANGES
Norder: Norder moves from running back to quarterback.
Finding lineman will be a huge key for the Storm. They lost three offensive linemen to graduation, so some rough patches early on are to be expected. The backfield will be the strength as Norder and Schoenholz have excellent speed and quickness.
Five of the eight defensive starters were lost to graduation. Stopping the run could be the No. 1 issue as the Storm are lacking in size up front.
GAME TO WATCH
McCool Junction, Sept. 27
Franklin, Harvard, Heartland, McCool Junction, Red Cloud
“We were wiped out by graduation last year, so finding players to replace our starters will be a major challenge. But I like the potential. We’ll be very quick. Grant Norder has never started a game but we are very pleased with how he looks early on.”
