* * *

CLASS A NO. 4 LINCOLN SOUTHEAST
District A-5

Coach: Ryan Gottula, third season
Last season: The Knights lost in state quarterfinals to Omaha North.

RETURNING STARTERS

QB/FS Luke Gifford (Sr.), WR/CB Trey Beamon (Sr.), OT/DT Fyn Anderson (Jr.), OC/DT Marshall Dean (Sr.); OG/DT DJ Foster (Sr.), OG/DT Kwame Rovertson (Sr.), TE/DE Peter Read (Sr.), RB/LB Hunter Johnson (Sr.).

KEY DEPARTURES

QB Najee Jackson and RB Devin Washington: Jackson ended his senior year with 1,608 passing yards and 12 passing touchdowns, and he rushed for 10 scores. Washington, a back-to-back all-state player, ended his senior year with 1,153 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.

KEY RETURNING PLAYERS

Foster and Gifford: These two seasoned seniors are receiving Division I interest, with Foster committed to Nebraska. Foster is a two-time all-state player, and Gifford was all-state last season.

NEWCOMERS

Return from injury: RB/CB Darian Trout-Brown and TE/DE BJ Day, both seniors.

ON OFFENSE

Foster provides the Knights with a force up front, and he’ll likely play on the offensive line for the Huskers. The offense lost some great skill-position players to graduation, but Gifford should be solid at quarterback.

ON DEFENSE
The defensive line, anchored by Foster, will be one of the best in the state this year.

DISTRICT OPPONENTS

Lincoln East, Lincoln Northeast, Lincoln Pius X, Lincoln Southwest, Norfolk.

COACH’S QUOTE

“We will return a good core of players on the defensive side of the ball and three starters on the offensive line. I expect our senior class to be a great group of leaders.”
— Gottula
