The post-Titans era
Mike Patterson Omaha World-Herald

With the first week of football in the books, volleyball is ready to begin Thursday.

This season already is being viewed as unpredictable for one primary reason — Papillion-La Vista South actually looks mortal. The Titans have been practically unbeatable the past three seasons, but the Big Three — Kadie and Amber Rolfzen and Kelly Hunter — have moved on to the University of Nebraska.

The presence of a new coach, former LSU standout Elena Pietro, also adds to the intrigue.

It will be interesting to see how the three-time defending Class A champ performs in this “season after.” The Titans don’t have much experience back, except for South Florida recruit Adyson Goodnight and sophomore Raegan LeGrand, who will shift from libero to outside hitter.

Papio South entered each of the last three seasons as the heavy favorite and delivered a title each time. But teams such as Omaha Marian, Lincoln Southwest and Millard West (among others) will be viewed as the Class A favorites in 2013.

The Titans open the season this weekend in the competitive Bellevue Invitational, and that will be the opposition’s first opportunity for “payback” for three years of domination. We’ll see how the new-look Titans handle it.
