One day after Deadspin leaked a 2-year-old audiotape that included Nebraska coach Bo Pelini’s expletive-filled rant after a Husker game, the sports website has decided to offer a bit more insight into the origins of the recording.
In an article titled “How we acquired that Bo Pelini audio recording,” Deadspin staff writer Dom Cosentino clarifies a few details about the person who submitted the audio because the tipster “has become a topic of some interest.”
Cosentino posts the entire redacted email exchange with the source, adding that Deadspin, shortly after posting the orginal story and audio, heard from a second source who expressed knowledge of Pelini’s rant as early as Oct. 10, 2011.
In one of the emails, the source hints at their reasoning for releasing the audio clip two years after its recording:
Since Monday’s revelation, Bo Pelini has apologized, former players have spoken out in the coach’s defense and Nebraska chancellor Harvey Perlman said the university is “disappointed and we are reflecting on the situation.”
Earlier Tuesday, Pelini said he did not know who leaked the audio but that “obviously there was an agenda” behind the tape’s release.
