Perlman on Pelini: “We’re reflecting”
Sam McKewon Omaha World-Herald

University of Nebraska-Lincoln chancellor Harvey Perlman rebuffed several questions from the media about NU coach Bo Pelini after his annual state-of-the-university speech Tuesday at the Lied Center.

“I’m not going to talk about football today,” Perlman said to one question asking if Pelini would be reprimanded or disciplined after comments of a 2011 rant were released Monday on Deadspin.

“Nice try,” he said to another.

“We issued a statement and the statement holds,” he said to a third.

Asked to make that statement again, Perlman said “We’re disappointed and we are reflecting on the situation.”

How long will that reflection take?

“Until we decide not to,” Perlman said.

Perlman was asked about his level of concern over Pelini being secretly recorded after the 2011 Ohio State game, and that recording making it to Deadspin.

“There’s always concern,” he said. “All of us in public life worry about when we’re going to be taped and when we’re going to be filmed. But that’s part of the environment we’re in.”
