Mavericks Today Omaha World-Herald

UNO junior center back Felipe da Silva picked up Summit League co-defensive player of the week honors on Monday.

The award was the first weekly honor for the native of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Da Silva was an All-Summit Second-Team selection last year in his first year at UNO.

Da Silva led the Maverick back line in a 2-1 win over defending Summit League champion Western Illinois on Saturday and a 1-1 draw with Kansas City last Tuesday for an unbeaten week. Da Silva played all 200 minutes and helped the Mavs limit UMKC to two shots on goal and Western Illinois to four shots on goal.

Da Silva was involved in the attack as well, producing three shots and putting two shots on goal for the week.

UNO is tied for second in the league with 13 goals allowed. Da Silva has been on the field every minute for the Mavs through eight games. He joins Vance Rookwood, Matt Grosey and Chava Garcia in being honored by the league this season.

The Mavs host unbeaten Milwaukee (7-0-1) on Wednesday at the UNO Soccer Field at 4 p.m.
