Third quarter: Abdullah, Bell putting on a show

Ameer Abdullah and Kenny Bell were the highlights as Nebraska bumped its lead to 36-12 over Illinois after three quarters at Memorial Stadium.

Abdullah went to the fourth quarter with a career-high 182 yards on 16 carries. The junior I-back scored his second touchdown on a 43-yard run with 12:58 left in the third quarter.

Bell came through with a leaping one-handed catch that he turned into a 37-yard scoring pass from Tommy Armstrong. That gave NU its 36-12 lead with 2:44 to go.

Also in the third quarter:

>> Mauro Bondi missed the extra point after the Bell touchdown, joining Pat Smith with a failed conversion Saturday.

>> Illinois got its only third-quarter points on a 1-yard run by Donovonn Young. The Illini put together a 14-play, 75-yard drive that lasted 7:04.

>> Nebraska caused its second turnover when a blitzing Ciante Evans hit Nathan Scheelhaase and defensive end Jason Ankrah intercepted a pass with 3:22 left in the third.
