New conference, but not much love.
Creighton did not crack the USA Today’s preseason men’s college basketball top 25 released Thursday.
The Bluejays were one of 22 schools outside the top 25 to receive at least a vote. Creighton tallied 87 points, 16 short of No. 25 Virginia.
Only one Big East team, Marquette at No. 18, was voted into the top 25. Georgetown, picked to finish second in the conference earlier this week by Big East coaches, garnered 38 points.
An Associated Press poll released in March ranked Creighton at No. 22, 14 spots behind Georgetown and seven behind Marquette.
The top five teams in the USA Today poll include Kentucky at No. 1, then Michigan State, Louisville, Duke and Arizona.
USA Today lists 32 NCAA coaches as voters, including Creighton’s Greg McDermott.
Iowa (86) and Iowa State (2) also received votes from coaches.
