Nebraska-Minnesota pregame: OL paying tribute to Spencer Long
Jon Nyatawa Omaha World-Herald

Senior Spencer Long, an All-American and the leader of NU’s offensive line, is out for the year because of a devastating injury. And his teammates want everyone to know how important he is.

So from this point on, a Husker offensive lineman will wear No. 61 (Long’s number) each game. On Saturday, it’ll be senior tackle Andrew Rodriguez paying tribute.

Long received a waiver to travel with the team but not count against the travel roster total (70 players max) for the remainder of the season.

Speaking of Nebraska’s travel roster, some nuggets are below…

>> Junior college transfer Chongo Kondolo, a possible candidate to help replace Long at guard, did not travel to Minnesota. He’d been redshirting up to this point and it appears he’ll continue to do so.

>> Tight end Jake Long (hamstring) isn’t suited up, but he did travel with the team.

>> Nebraska traveled and dressed four quarterbacks — Taylor Martinez, Ron Kellogg, Tommy Armstrong and Ryker Fyfe.

>> Sophomore receiver Tyler Wullenwaber, who didn’t travel to Purdue, made the trip this week instead of junior receiver Tyler Evans.
