Scouting UNO: The Mavericks are 2-0 all-time against Northern Illinois, with their first Division I win against a Division I program (77-72) coming in DeKalb on Dec. 3, 2011. … UNO returns four starters and eight lettermen from last year, a group that accounted for 84 percent (1,850 of 2,215) of its points. … Justin Simmons is the Summit League’s leading returning scorer after averaging 16.7 points per game last year. He’s a preseason All-Summit first team pick. … UNO is picked to finish fifth in the eight-team Summit. … Senior John Karhoff needs 73 points to become the 34th player in school history to record 1,000 career points.

Scouting Northern Illinois: The Huskies are picked to finish last in their six-team division of the Mid-American Conference after going 5-25 overall and 3-13 in the MAC last year. … The Huskies’ best player, 6-7 forward Abdel Nader, transferred to Iowa State. … Aksel Bolin scored 11 points and Daveon Balls had 10 against UNO last year. … Bolin played for Norway this summer in the World University Games.
