Multiple media outlets reported Thursday that former Florida Atlantic coach Carl Pelini denies using drugs and is seeking reinstatement as head coach. ESPN college football writer Brett McMurphy first reported the story.
Pelini, a former Husker defensive coordinator and brother of Nebraska coach Bo Pelini, resigned from his position on Oct. 30. In a statement distributed by Florida Atlantic, Pelini apologized “for exercising poor judgment.”
FAU Athletic Director Patrick Chun previously told reporters Pelini admitted to using illegal drugs, and an FAU assistant signed a sworn affidavit in which he said he saw Pelini use marijuana and cocaine.
Deadspin.com posted Thursday a “Withdrawal of Resignation Letter” from Pelini addressed to the FAU president and others.
