The Huskers only have 70 spots available on their Big Ten travel roster. And that apparently doesn’t leave room for their injured quarterback.
Senior Taylor Martinez, recovering from numerous injuries (shoulder, hip, abs and toes), did not make the trip to The Big House. It’s the first time since 2009 that the four-year starter has not been on site with Nebraska’s football team on game day.
Junior receiver Jamal Turner also didn’t travel for the first time in his career. Junior offensive guard Jake Cotton, however, will be on the sidelines. He was not suited up for pregame warm-ups, though.
Other travel roster notes are below …
>> Redshirt freshman linebacker Jared Afalava did not make the trip for undisclosed reasons. He didn’t play last week. Coach Bo Pelini has said that Afalava’s absence is not injury related.
>> Players on the travel roster for the first time this season: Senior offensive lineman Brandon Chapek, redshirt freshman receiver Lane Hovey, redshirt freshman receiver Graham Nabity and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Paul Thurston.
>> As a reminder: Senior Spencer Long will be on the sidelines, but he received a waiver from the league and does not count against Nebraska’s 70-man total.
