UNO’s CJ Carter shared player of the week basketball honors in the Summit League on Monday.
The junior guard led the Mavericks to a season-opening comeback victory at Northern Illinois and a near upset at Iowa.
Against NIU, Carter scored 18 points, including the game-tying basket with 3:04 remaining and the go-ahead driving layup with 14 seconds left. His opening night performance included six rebounds, four assists, one steal and one blocked shot while also converting 9 of 11 free-throw attempts (81.8 percent).
At Iowa, Carter scored a game-best 22 points, including four 3-pointers, and added four rebounds and three steals. He scored 13 points in the first half as UNO built a seven-point halftime advantage over its Big Ten opposition.
For the week, Carter averaged 20 points, five rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals per contest.
IUPUI’s Mitch Patton also was honored.
