Video: How far do those red Husker balloons go? A long, long way
Big Red Today Omaha World-Herald

Every Nebraska fan knows the drill: When the Husker football team gets on the board, that’s the cue to release the red balloons.

The tradition, which dates back to at least the 1940s, made headlines last year when the university flip-flopped on a decision to discontinue the celebration due to the availability of helium, but the signature balloons are in the news this week because of how far one of the balloons traveled.

According to an ABC affiliate in Grand Rapids, Mich., a woman discovered one of the Husker balloons “caught in the weeds” at Ludington State Park, approximately 565 miles from Lincoln.
