UNO goaltender Ryan Massa was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s goaltender of the week on Monday.
Massa backstopped both wins by the Nos. 15 and 17 Mavericks last weekend as they knocked off then No. 8 Miami 6-3 and 3-1. The native of Littleton, Colo. made 29 saves and allowed just one even-strength goal in Friday’s series opener. The next night, he allowed just one powerplay goal on 26 shots as the Mavericks earned their second series sweep of the year.
Massa has won his last five starts, allowing only 10 goals and just three even-strength goals. He has posted a 1.99 goals-against average and a .934 save percentage in that time. At 5-2-0, his winning percentage of .714 ranks second-best in the NCHC.
The University of Nebraska at Omaha is ranked in both national polls for the first time this season. The Mavericks are No. 15 in the latest top 15 poll from USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and 17th in the weekly top 20 poll from USCHO.com.
