Big Red Today Omaha World-Herald

Doug McDermott repeated as Big East player of the week, and the unbeaten Creighton men’s basketball team continued to rise in the national polls, it was announced on Monday.

One of 51 remaining unbeaten teams, Creighton is off to a 4-0 start for the third straight season after Saturday’s 82-72 win over Tulsa.

The Bluejays rose three spots in the Associated Press poll to a season-best 20th, and climbed a national-best five spots in the USA Today coaches poll to 18th. Michigan State and Kansas lead both polls.

Doug McDermott had 33 points and 15 rebounds against Tulsa in his lone game last week. McDermott made 9 of 17 shots, including 3 of 7 3-pointers, and also drained 12 of 15 foul shots. He also added two assists and tied a career-high with two steals.

Creighton plays three games this week at the Wooden Legacy in California, beginning with a 10 p.m. tilt against Arizona State on Thursday. The Sun Devils, also unbeaten, are 34th in this week’s AP poll. Fellow Wooden Legacy participants Marquette (No. 25) and George Washington (one vote) are also receiving votes in the AP poll this week.
