Nebraska Prep Zone Omaha World-Herald

Millard West defensive end Harrison Phillips was named the 2013-14 Nebraska football player of the year, the Gatorade Company and USA Today High School Sports announced Thursday. Phillips is the second football player from Millard West to be honored by Gatorade.

The award recognizes “outstanding athletic excellence” and “high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character.”

As the Nebraska honoree, Phillips — a 6-foot-3, 200-pound Stanford recruit and Super Six selection — is now a finalist for the national player of the year award.

Phillips had 86 tackles (21 for losses), nine sacks, seven forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and three pass breakups this season. The Wildcats (10-2) made it to the Class A state semifinals.
