Miles OK with Husker/Jay fan split, for now

Some call them “Jayskers.” Other less polite nicknames have been tacked onto Nebraskans who root for Husker football in the fall and Creighton basketball in the winter.

NU coach Tim Miles said he understands why it happens.

“If you’re in Omaha and you’ve got a heck of a basketball team doing great, why not go out and support them,” he said. “At the same time, our fans have been great, showing up at Pinnacle Bank Arena and the people who came down to Charleston.

“I’m sure we’ll have a good showing in Omaha.”

Miles called the split fandom “their choice.”

“Our obstacle,” he said, “is to be one of those teams that’s in the NCAA and winning, and Creighton has done that and we haven’t. Until we get to that level, why complain about it.”
