Pelini includes Nebraska in his top 25 ballot
Jon Nyatawa Omaha World-Herald

Bo Pelini thinks his Huskers are the 25th-best team in the country. But the 61 other coaches who also vote each week do not agree.

Pelini was the only coach to rank Nebraska in this week’s USA Today coaches’ poll. The Huskers had one vote — good for one point in the poll — and it came from Pelini. You can view each coach’s ballot here (USA Today has released all of the final regular season ballots for the past few years).

It’s certainly not unusual for a coach to give his own team preferential treatment in his rankings. Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio had the Spartans second in his ballot. Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy ranked the Sooners two spots below his Cowboys, who lost to Oklahoma Saturday. Oregon’s Mark Helfrich slotted the Ducks seventh (they’re 12th in the actual poll).

Pelini’s full ballot is below…

1. Florida State
2. Auburn
3. Alabama
4. Michigan State
5. Ohio State
6. Baylor
7. Stanford
8. Missouri
9. South Carolina
10. Oregon
11. Oklahoma
12. Oklahoma State
13. Clemson
14. Central Florida
15. LSU
16. Arizona State
17. Louisville
18. Wisconsin
19. UCLA
20. Texas A&M
21. Iowa
22. Georgia
23. Fresno State
24. Duke
25. Nebraska

***The 25th spot is the lowest Pelini’s ranked NU in his final ballot since becoming the Huskers’ head coach. He had Nebraska at 17th last year (actually ranked 21st in the full poll), 16th in 2011 (20th), eighth in 2010 (16th), 13th in 2009 (19th) and 22nd in 2008 (not ranked).
