Finally, during the BCS Championship Game, the real Pelini decided he’d been silent long enough. The Nebraska coach tweeted at his faux self — asking for his faux cat back — and followers of both Pelini accounts went wild; the coach’s tweet picked up nearly 9,000 retweets in three hours. The conversation:
@FauxPelini ok enough is enough… I want my cat back. You've had her long enough!
— Bo Pelini (@BoPelini) January 7, 2014
Faux Pelini explains:
@BoPelini OK don't be mad but I haven't seen her since Thursday. WAIT DIDN'T CARL LEAVE TOWN ON THURSDAY
— Fake Bo Pelini (@FauxPelini) January 7, 2014
That’s a reference to former Husker defensive coordinator Carl Pelini, who also happens to be Bo’s brother. Faux Pelini likes to joke about Carl.
In November, Pelini said on his radio call-in show that he was aware of the account but doesn’t know who’s running it.
“From what I understand he provides a lot of entertainment for a lot of people,” Pelini said. “So he obviously has a lot going for him.”
This isn’t the first conversation the @FauxPelini account has had with a Husker coach or official accounts. He’s conversed with Nebraska men’s basketball coach Tim Miles, the Georgia Athletics account and the accounts for the Gator Bowl and other bowl games. A few of the most notable exchanges:
@FauxPelini wait. Don't go too fast, I'm writing this down

.@FauxPelini You were supposed to get in the minivan we sent with the bag of money and A PAIR OF PANTS ON. No second chances.
