Two top Nebraska defensive recruits of the 2012 recruiting class — and one 2013 major contributor on defense — were not enrolled in second semester classes as of Monday morning, according to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Avery Moss — a redshirt freshman defensive end who had 4.5 sacks, eight tackles for loss and a interception for a touchdown — and redshirt freshman linebacker Jared Afalava, did not make the Gator Bowl trip last month. Moss missed the game, coach Bo Pelini said, for “personal reasons,” while Afalava missed for a violation of team rules.
Moss played in all 12 regular season games, while Afalava played in four, tumbling so far down the depth chart by the end of the season that he wasn’t traveling with the squad for road games.
Moss has a late January court date on charges of public indecency and disturbing the peace, stemming from a Dec. 2012 incident when he allegedly exposed his genitals twice to a female worker at a UNL convenience store.
Asked for an update on Moss Saturday, Pelini said by text that there would be an update “soon.”
