Jared Afalava will not be returning to the Nebraska football team, coach Bo Pelini confirmed Wednesday. A native of South Jordan, Utah, the 6-foot-3, 230-pound Afalava played in four games — starting two — as a redshirt freshman. He finished with 12 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack. Afalava had tumbled down the depth chart by the end of the season, however, and didn’t make the Gator Bowl trip because of a violation of team rules.
Pelini did not have a update on defensive end Avery Moss — who missed the Gator Bowl trip because of personal reasons. As of Tuesday, the 6-foot-3, 265-pound Moss had not registered for classes according to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln registrar’s office. While any student has two weeks after the beginning of the semester to do so, each passing day makes it more unlikely any student would be enrolled for the current semester. Moss faces charges of public indecency and disturbing the peace stemming from a December 2012 incident in which he allegedly exposed himself to a UNL convenience store worker.
