Shawn Watson’s next stop is with an old Big 12 rival. Texas has made it official that Watson will be part of head coach Charlie Strong’s staff in Austin.
Watson clashed with the Longhorns for more than a decade while at Nebraska (2007-10) and Colorado (1999-2005). He left his position as the Huskers’ offensive coordinator for Louisville, where he was quarterbacks coach in 2011 and then added offensive coordinator duties the last two seasons for Strong.
With Strong at Texas, Watson will be serving as quarterbacks coach and assistant head coach for offense. Joe Wickline has been picked as the Longhorns’ offensive coordinator, leaving Oklahoma State, in what is considered a surprise hire.
