Recruiting: Nebraska lands Nick Gates, top target at OT

Nebraska’s long week of on-the-road recruiting earned a reward Friday afternoon when Las Vegas Bishop Gorman offensive tackle Nick Gates announced on Twitter his commitment to the Huskers.

The 6-foot-5, 280-pound four-star lineman had long been atop the Huskers’ board for offensive tackles, but NU had to fend off offers from Alabama, Oregon, Texas A&M, UCLA and Washington.

Here’s Gates’ highlight film. You’ll like the agility a lot, especially on run plays. He joins Tanner Farmer and D.J. Foster as 2014 offensive line commits. Foster, a Lincoln Southeast guard, was particularly pleased on Twitter.

NU offensive line coach John Garrison can’t comment on specific commits, but you know what this means:
