UNO track and field’s Sami Spenner was named the Summit League’s female athlete of the month for January, the conference announced Friday.

Now a three-time athlete of the month selection, Spenner also captured the Summit League and USTFCCCA national athlete of the week awards.

The senior set the school record and the season’s top NCAA mark with a pentathlon score of 4,406 at the Jack Jennett Invitational, which ranks third in the world and is sixth all-time on the NCAA charts. Spenner won all six events in which she competed, setting a school record in the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 9 inches.

Spenner won nine events at four meets in January, setting two school records and seven personal records. The Columbus, Neb., native currently ranks in the Summit’s top 10 in seven events, including first in the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, long jump, triple jump and pentathlon.
