Scouting Creighton: The Bluejays posted a 29-point win over the Musketeers in a Jan. 15 home game, but Creighton has struggled on the road in league play. The Bluejays’ four road Big East losses have come by margins of 19, 6, 14 and 14 points. Their three road wins have come against three of the bottom four teams in the league standings. Sophomore Marissa Janning leads the conference in scoring (18.0 points per game) and free-throw percentage (.860). She has scored 104 of her 451 points from the free-throw line. Janning is the first Creighton player to sink more than 100 free throws in a season since Megan Neuvirth had 101 during the 2009-10 season. Senior Sarah Nelson continues to climb up Creighton’s all-time scoring and rebounding lists. She has grabbed 841 career rebounds to stand fourth, and her 1,344 points put her 12th on the scoring list. She needs 13 points to pass Becky Flynn and move into 11th.

Scouting Xavier: The Musketeers have lost seven straight games and are 1-9 in their last 10. Xavier lost its leading scorer when Shatyra Hawkes was dismissed from the team Friday for violating athletic department rules. Hawkes was averaging 13.9 points per game in addition to leading the team in assists at 3.7 per game. Xavier also has been without starting guard Jenna Crittendon for the past four games because of an injury. The Musketeers rank in the bottom half of the league in every statistical category except steals and 3-point field goals per game. Zantt has been one of the few bright spots for Xavier, ranking second in the league in steals (59) and tied for first in steals per game (2.4). The Musketeers are averaging 16.6 turnovers per game and getting outrebounded by 6.2 per game.

Opening tips: Creighton’s win in January came in the teams’ first meeting. The Bluejays will return home Sunday to take on league-leading St. John’s in a 2:05 p.m. game at D.J. Sokol Arena.
