Doug McDermott again named USBWA national player of the week

Creighton’s Doug McDermott was named the Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association announced Tuesday.

McDermott helped the Bluejays climb into first place in the Big East by averaging 32.5 points and 6 rebounds in a 68-63 road win at Butler and a 101-80 victory over then-No. 6 Villanova.

The senior forward had 26 points and five rebounds in the Butler game Thursday. On Sunday, McDermott tied a season high with 39 points.

McDermott was also named the Naismith Award national player of the week Monday. The senior also earned national player of the week honors from CBSSports.com and NBCSports.com, while earning Big East player of the week honors a league-record seventh time.
