Social media reaction: Tim Miles, new Nebraska coach
Brian Norton Omaha World-Herald

On Friday night, Tim Miles resigned from his job at Colorado State to accept the Nebraska men’s basketball coaching position. A coach known for his relentless enthusiasm, Miles will be the 27th men’s basketball coach at Nebraska. Check out a photo showcase from his time at Colorado State.

Reaction to the hire was mixed on Twitter and Facebook. Here’s quick look at what fans and media members had to say about Miles:

  1. Red says:

    Welcome to Nebraska, coach Miles!

I, for one, will exhibit the patience needed while you drag Nebraska Basketball up from the bottom of the pool. Let’s hope other Husker fans follow suit.

    Go Big Red!!!!!!!!

    1. macjones says:

      R.I.P. Lil’ Herbie MCB

Because even Myles won’t be able to bring Lil ‘Herbie back from the cold, cold abyss. LOL

  2. unitedtexan says:

If this guy can win at Wisconsin and Marquette with North Dakota State and beat some very good MWC teams while at Colorado State, he can win at Nebraska. He is leaving a Top 25 team behind to make a difference in Lincoln. Great hire.

    1. A Fan says:

A dud hire. Collier = Saddler = Miles

  3. NUCORNDEVIL says:

Shocker……another mediocre hire by the ULTRA conservative, and cheap NU Athletic Dept.
It’s a good thing Erstad went to NU.
Should have just hired ‘unitedtexan’ could have saved more money, the results will be the same.

    1. TexasHusker says:

Why do you continue to deprive us of your coaching greatness?

You profess to be a Nebraska fan, yet preclude any possibility of bestowing the infinite benefits of your wisdom on our representative athletes.

Don’t deny us your coaching genius any longer, NUCORNDEVIL!

      Apply today!

Wow us with those sterling credentials!

Show us that you’re not just another internet blowhard!

  4. WakeUpHuskerFans says:

If he wins, I’ll love him.

But I think we coulda done better … We only spent $1.4mil … We got a $1.4 mil coach … We needed a $2-$3 million coach to turn this Titanic around …

    1. Tired Husker says:

We payed 1.4 mill for a 800k coach great job TO, just retire already

      1. Tired Husker says:

Harvey, you’re responsible for this mess, leave and take TO with you

        1. NUCORNDEVIL says:

Possibly the first TRUE words of reality spoken on this blog in the last 5 years!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
          Thank You !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

          1. TexasHusker says:

            You’re SO RIGHT!!!11!!11!!!eleventy!!11!

      2. Wz OWL says:

Why don’t you guys all go back to Texas, or maybe you’re all the same guy making multiple posts. Oh well, they don’t have anything else to do in Texas.

  5. Matt in MN says:

Really tough to get very stoked about this hire, but Dirk C’s article makes a case for why there is some hope. And lest we forget this guy did something this season that Nebraska’s pathetic program hasn’t done since the 90s: play an NCAA tournament game. Hard to believe TO and co can’t attract any bigger names even with the new facilities though…clearly was a plan B (or maybe even C) hire…

    1. BigFRed says:

Maybe they have a hard time finding a good coach is because they have crappy fans like you. The buck tooth, four-eyed, pimple faced boy who expects to go to the dance with the homecoming queen.

      1. Matt in MN says:

Wow…that’s interesting…you call me a crappy fan for being skeptical about the hire and calling NU’s program pathetic right now, then in the same sentence refer to the program as the “buck toothed, four-wheel pimple-faced boy”…what a wonderful fan you must be!

        1. BigFRed says:

What is there to be skeptical about. You were expecting Izzo? Obviously the program is in poor shape. Give this guy a chance instead of writing him off before he starts.

      2. Danny says:

Wow! Take a step back, man.

        1. Danny says:

My reply was to BigFRed, not you Matt in MN.

          1. BigFRed says:

You’re right. Apologies to “Matt in MN”. Too much bashing on a new coach who needs fan support, that’s all.

    2. NUCORNDEVIL says:

In all reality…….I’m thinking T.O. begged Mr. Mild, being that option B) and C) were John Cena, and or Bruce Springsteen. :)
I cannot express what a ‘black hole’ NU BB is.
Could have landed Rick Majerus for 2.0 mil per year, A million times more EXPERIENCE, HUGE recruiting power, and he is absolutely genius when it comes to the intricacies of BB. Rick has about 10+ years left in him, would have made an immediate impact on the BIG, and brought instant credibility to NU BB. reality Another Tom and Harvey Show re-run.

      1. NUCorndeevil .. really says:

Nucorndevel.. how do you know Majerus was available or if he would be interested? Are you personal friend of his? I’m a Majerus fan as much as anybody .. but I think your comments are unrealistic.

        1. NUCORNDEVIL says:

How do we know he wasn’t?

    3. macjones says:

MATT in MN is your TYPICAL delusional Lil’ Herbie ZEALOT.

In other words, MATT don’t deal with reality and the reality of major college basketball indicates Lil’Herbie MCB is INSIGNIFICANT, in the grand realm of college basketball. Always has been and always will be.

So perhaps that’s the reason WHY all those BIG NAME hires Matty was insanely, dreaming of didn’t materialize. LMAO

      1. TexasHusker says:

Still nothing to talk about on your Colorado Puffalo boards, huh, Mac?

        24-50 since 2005.

Shoulder to shoulder, still losing in Boulder!

        Buffawo Up!

  6. Husker63 says:

What have we got to lose.Any success will be an improvement over what we have been seeing on the court.Getting this team to score out of the 40′s will be a good start.Good luck Coach.

  7. MojoHusker says:

Welcome to Lincoln Coach Miles. We obviously wish you the best and as you will soon find out, we want a tough and winning team in the worst way. If you turn this ship around, you will be more famous around Lincoln than Larry the Cable Guy

    Good luck and GBR!

    1. AP says:

It’s pretty sad if that’s who you hang your hat on.

  8. Sooka says:

    Miles and Boo Boo…………….

Great Combo…………………. Any chance Miles teaching Coach Boo Boo some sideline manners?

  9. Matt in MN says:

OK, so sorry for calling NU’s basketball program pathetic earlier – probably not the best choice of words, but the program is in somewhat of a pathetic state right now.

I do welcome coach Miles and wish him the best. I hope he can end the drought and right the ship. It’s too bad things have gotten to this point.

    1. A Fan says:

Matt in MN… you have nothing to be sorry about. Nebraska basketball is pathetic. This hire is typical for Nebraska basketball. Another middle of the road, vanilla, let’s all drive 55 mph when the speed limit is 65, type hire. Miles is a good guy, appears to be on the ball, but does anyone really think he’s going to get the kind of players Nebraska needs to compete against Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Indiana… in basketball?

  10. Danny says:

Doc wasn’t fired because Tom didn’t believe in him. Doc was fired because he believed after 6 years the message of rebuilding had gone stale with recruits.

The coach of Nebraska will be selling the vision of being the first at Nebraska to win an NCAA Tournament game. You have an opportunity to do something that has never been done, and become a legend.

Anyone remember when Dan McCarney was fired at Iowa St? Similar situation. Iowa St. made a splash when they hired Gene Chizik, but he jumped ship after two years. Maybe Tom has found our own version of Paul Rhodes.

    1. A Fan says:

Then again… may be not. What was Rhoads doing, and where, prior to going to Iowa State? No offense to Colorado State… but it is Colorado State. We need a 2 million dollar per year type basketball coach. It comes down to either Osborne didn’t want to spend that much (a dumb and cheap call)… or we were willing to pay that and no one was interested. That scenario is scarier than the first one.

  11. macjones says:

Not only is Lil’ Herbie MCB pathetic, it’s a bloody J-O-K-E of a program in the grand scheme of major college hoopdom’s. Howdy.

So y’all small town/suburban Good Ol’ Boy Roy’s can continue to wax DELUSIONAL, dreams about the dire state of Lil’ Herbie MCB. Eh.

Because five and or six years from now, y’all Lil’ Herbie HAYSEEDS will be, still, wondering WHY our precious Lil’ Herbie MCB ain’t getting no love or respect from the rest of the Big Ten. dUh.

By the way Lil’ Herbie rooters, your diamond team STILL sux’s, too. LMAO

Heck, Illinois is a typical Big 10 BOTTOM-FEEDER team and the Illini MOLESTED your team de jure in the small town Capital town. Illinois 11, Lil’ Herbie 2, anyone. LOL

  12. Big Beef says:

Time will tell. The goal is too get to the NCAA tourney, just like Bo’s goal is a BCS game, which we are still waiting for…

  13. WakeUpHuskerFans says:

So far, T.O. as A.D. as been very good at raising money … and very bad at hiring coaches …

    1. A Fan says:

I think Osborne’s hires for football and baseball are good. However, I don’t think he’s all knowing. He did hand pick Solich to take over the football program, and that didn’t turn out well. Overall, he did good with Pelini, the jury is out with Erstad (though I think this will end up being a good hire)… and flubbed the basketball hire. You’d think there’d be a top name coach would come here for a couple million a year.

      1. NUCORNDEVIL says:

It is official, this hire demonstrates just how simple minded the NU Athletic Dept. believes it’s fan base is.
Welcome to the Tom and Harvey ‘Mediocrity Show.’

    2. NUCORNDEVIL says:

  14. slacker says:

What a sad farce, so much money and attention wasted on a loser basketball program. If the purpose of the program is to give scholarships to marginally talented inner city kids and a few furriners and employment to broken down and/or mediocre coaches, then fine. but let’s not kid ourselves, this is and always has been a weak and often pathetic program that is wholly unworthy of state taxpayer outlays.

    1. NUCORNDEVIL says:

Right on! GO BIG!!! or go wash your car………….

  15. CDad63 says:

I was ready to scrap my season tickets and give up on Nebrasketball.

But I watched the presser. Not much coach-speak. Looked like he understood the situation (bad) that he is dealt. Plan for how to get out of the casket-hole 12 years of Collier and Sadler have dug for us.

I’m going to give Miles a fair chance.

    1. NUCORNDEVIL says:

i will NEVER have nor will EVER buy Nebrasketball season tickets.
I would give that money to a rehab center or orphanage, where it may help.

      1. Hskrbll says:

I hope you do. Internet talk is cheap, as we are all proving … Will that be on an annual basis, or this a one-time deal? (don’t forget to include the “donation” fee a lot of fans pay) ….Thank you for remembering the down-trodden and less fortunate.

  16. Sooka says:

Did T.O. ever consider follow Alberts lead? Scrap B-Ball…… like they did swimming….

Think about it…………. Who in their right mind would be recruited to Nebraska??? Right…… the left overs and have nots……

Get used to it………….spend all that money on facilities and it makes no difference…..

  17. MilesToGoBeforeISleep says:

Wow. What a bunch of negative Nancy’s!

Go play Angry Birds or something.
