Best on the track
Two state records — who else can it be but Kenzo Cotton of Papillion-La Vista? The record-holder in three events (100, 200 and the 400 relay) has set the bar high for his senior season in 2014. He may expand his horizons, too, to the 400 meters.
Best in the field
Kearney’s Luke McNitt notched a sweep of the Class A weights by winning the discus with a gold-medal distance of 171-1. None of Saturday’s field events generated an all-time mark.

TOP PERFORMERS
Sophomore Mike Waldron pitched Omaha Westside to victory in the championship game. He went the distance and struck out six in the 8-0 win. He also had two hits, including an RBI single in the first.
Warriors junior center fielder Devin Stueck also had a nice game, belting three hits. He reached base a fourth time when he was hit by a pitch.
Millard South shortstop Jake Huscroft and pitcher Nick Houston performed well. Huscroft had two hits in the championship game (and two in the earlier game against Papillion-La Vista) and Houston held the fort as much as possible by pitching six innings of relief against Westside.
