Tom Lee to be Omaha Central A.D.
Tom Lee has been named as the new athletic director and an assistant principal at Omaha Central following Darin Williams’ promotion to principal of Hale Middle School. Lee has been the Eagles’ girls basketball coach for the past three years, taking them to the Class A state championship in 2012. He also has coached in the Omaha Public Schools at North and Burke, winning a state title with North. He was that school’s athletic director for four years.…

Best on the track Two state records — who else can it be but Kenzo Cotton of Papillion-La Vista? The record-holder in three events (100, 200 and the 400 relay) has set the bar high for his senior season in 2014. He may expand his horizons, too, to the 400 meters. Best in the field Kearney’s Luke McNitt notched a sweep of the Class A weights by winning the discus with a gold-medal distance of 171-1. None of Saturday’s field events generated an all-time mark. Highlights from Friday at Nebraska state track
Best on the track: Lincoln Pius X, which had won the Class A girls 3,200 relay three of the past four years without getting an all-class gold medal, broke through with the foursome of Sarah Kottwitz, Tarin Van Slyke, Megan Drozda and Alyssa Thavenet running the No. 5 time all time at 9:25.16. Best in the field: Tierra Williams of Auburn went to No. 2 on the all-time chart in the girls long jump with a wind-aided leap of 20-1¼ for an all-class gold. Surprise of the day: Pius X’s boys finished fourth in their loaded district in the 3,200 relay, but ended up on top in a NASCAR-like finish. Collin-Orcutt is May 27
The annual Collin-Orcutt All-Star game will be played May 27 at 6 p.m. at Brown Park. Greco and Don Kiviniemi of Bellevue East will coach the Collin squad while Jason Coulter of Omaha Benson and Scott Hodges of Omaha Burke will coach the Orcutt team. Cotton sets Class A meet record in 100
Papillion-La Vista junior Kenzo Cotton grabbed the Class A state meet record in the 100-meter dash by running 10.51 in Friday’s heats at Burke Stadium. Cotton’s personal best is a wind-aided 10.41 at last year’s state meet. That mark is second all-time on The World-Herald chart for electronic timing. Lincoln Pius X opened the two-day meet by setting school records in the girls and boys 3,200 relays to win Class A titles. The Pius girls are now fifth on the all-time list.…
