TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have placed guard Carl Nicks, an All-Pro last season and former Husker, on injured reserve.
Nicks, an All-Pro with the Saints in 2011 before signing with the Bucs as a free agent, will require surgery on his left foot to repair a toe problem. He has started all seven games with the Buccaneers and played in all 71 of his team’s games since entering the league in 2008, including 68 consecutive starts.

EATONTOWN, N.J. — The New York Jets signed veteran kicker Josh Brown, a former Husker.
Coach Rex Ryan said Brown gives the team “two excellent kickers” and it will be “a great competition” between him and Nick Folk this summer.
The 33-year-old Brown was released by the Rams last weekend after St. Louis drafted his potential replacement, former UNO Maverick Greg Zuerlein, in the sixth round Saturday. Brown, who was entering the final year of a five-year, $14.2 million deal, is a career 81 percent kicker but was 21 for 28 on field goals last season.

Amukamara, a cornerback who was a first-round pick a year ago, said the timing no doubt was unfortunate for Dennard, …

And Amukamara said quarterback Eli Manning is the one behind the focus already being on 2012.
“Everyone’s excited,” Amukamara said when asked about Organized Team Activities (or OTAs). “Eli’s already set the tone. Just been telling everybody that, ‘Last year was last year and this year it’s a new year. Everyone’s going to be gunning for us, and just be prepared.’ ”
In addition to Manning, the Giants also have a good chunk of other veterans who have the experience of winning a Super Bowl (XLII after the 2007 season) and finding out what it takes to come back the next year.
But for …
