With Nebraska wrestling coach Mark Manning coaching him matside, former Husker wrestler Jordan Burroughs made good on a yearlong promise that he’d win gold at the 2012 London Olympics, beating Iran’s Sadegh Goudarzi in the 74-kilogram (163+ pounds) final.
In preparation for the Olympics, Burroughs was unabashed in his desire to win gold, naming his Twitter handle @alliseeisgold in the process.
With the win, Burroughs has to be considered one of the best athletes in Husker history. Going undefeated in two different seasons with two national titles was impressive enough. But this international run cements it.

Another solid recruiting class for Nebraska wrestling coach Mark Manning, who inked six for the spring 2013 class, including one of the nation’s most dynamic wrestlers, T.J. Dudley.
Dudley — the best wrestler in South Carolina state history — finished 191-17 with (here’s the key) 138 pins. Dudley won the Senior NHSCA National Championships at 195 pounds, too. And he’s been wrestling for only six years. In a sport that rewards long-term youth experience, Dudley’s one of those rare elite athletes who didn’t care much for football.

After starting the season unranked, the Nebraska wrestling team moved to No. 24 in the NWCA/USA Today Coaches poll Tuesday. Big Ten foes Iowa and Penn State are Nos. 1 and 2, respectively.
